Shedeur Sanders Makes History Signing the First NIL Deal with Nike

As the quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes and son of Deion Sanders, Shedeur Sanders has had a busy off-season, securing new deals with Gatorade, Google, Urban Outfitters, and EA Sports. Today, he added apparel giant Nike to his list of partnerships with a newly announced multi-million dollar deal.

This deal allows Shedeur to carve out his own path alongside his father, who had a historic and ongoing relationship with Nike. As Shedeur enters his senior year, expectations are high for him and Colorado as they face new competition in the Big 12, where opponents will be eager to challenge them. Sanders is also projected to be one of the top picks in the NFL draft next season.

Last season, he threw for 3,230 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and only three interceptions, positioning himself as a potential Heisman candidate, depending on the Buffaloes’ success. Sanders has also launched his own podcast, 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders, where he talked about building on his father’s creative legacy. Deion Sanders’ Nike Air Max Diamond Turf runners were iconic in the 1990s when he was at his peak, playing both football and baseball in the same season in Atlanta.

Shedeur expressed his desire to build on his father’s legacy by creating new variations of the Air Max shoe. “I would want to build on it. I want to build on it. Have like a different version,” Sanders said. “But I think the concept, because I feel like it’s more… like now, like just looking at life and looking at everything, it’s more about generational. It’s more about what could be passed down year after year after year rather than everybody starting to think they’re the whole new wave and whole new because there’s no real substance behind it.”

A signature Nike cleat may also be in the works following this deal, with limitless marketing opportunities ahead as Colorado prepares to face off against North Dakota State tomorrow night at home. Check out the video of Sanders from his podcast below.
