Harry Potter A Forbidden Forest Experience Is Coming To Austin

Attention Harry Potter fans, the wait is over. The Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience is finally headed to Austin! In the last couple of years, the event has popped up all over the world and last year they finally made their way to Texas. We were lucky enough to attend the Dallas area experience and can’t wait to experience it again in Austin.

We’re spilling the Butterbeer on everything you need to know about the Austin Forbidden Forest Experience!

Much like stepping into the Wizarding World at Universal Studios, the Forbidden Forest Experience will transport you into the magical world of Harry Potter! You’ll walk through the work of HP, see your favorite moments from the wizarding universe and even interact with certain scenes. Don’t forget to take your wands! You just might need them to, well, conjure up a Patronus!

The Austin Forbidden Forest Experience opens this November with more specific dates to be announced soon. McKinney Roughs Nature Park in Cedar Creek will act as the Forbidden Forest and will be open Monday through Sunday from 5:45 to 11:45 pm. The duration is about an hour to an hour and a half. All ages are welcome and children 2 and under are free!

There will also be Harry Potter-themed food, much like the food at Wizarding World. They have Butterbeer! You can even do a little shopping at the stands and souvenir shop at the end of the experience.

We’re not sure if everything will be exactly the same as the Dallas location but for a better idea of what to expect, read this.

Tickets go on sale August 29th at 10 am.

Know before you go:

  • Download the app before you go. There’s a lot to learn and it’s better to be prepared. The link should be provided in your ticket confirmation email.
  • There might be a parking fee. If there is, buy it online before you go – it will most likely be cheaper.
  • All of the interactive moments repeat themselves every few minutes so if you miss something, don’t worry, just wait.
  • Don’t forget your wand. There are spells to be cast throughout and, more importantly, a Patronus to conjure!
  • Wear comfortable shoes. Fancy shoes won’t go with your robe anyway!
  • Check the weather before you go and dress accordingly. Texas weather is unpredictable so it’s best to plan ahead, if possible. They do have scarves, gloves and hats for sale before you enter the forest, just in case.
  • Don’t buy too many things before you enter the forest because you’ll have to carry them around while trying to take pictures. Plus, they have a souvenir shop as you exit the experience.

Remember, you’re going into the forest, after all. Got to have your wits about you.
