Rey Is The Perfect Jedi Master To Enforce This One Jedi Rule

Rey Skywalker’s unique history makes her the perfect Jedi to uphold this one long-standing Jedi rule in Star Wars, which will no doubt become important in her upcoming Star Wars movie. Rey’s new movie, rumored to be titled Star Wars: New Jedi Order, is confirmed to be set 15 years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Although updates on New Jedi Order remain fairly limited, the rumored title and details that have been released suggest the movie will see Rey at the helm of her own Jedi Order.

In light of that, Rey will need to make a number of major decisions that will shape Star Wars movies and TV shows moving forward. Specifically, as New Jedi Order represents a brand-new era of the Star Wars timeline, this movie will likely set the tone for the future of the Jedi. However, one Jedi rule from the prequel trilogy will almost certainly carry over to this new era, and Rey will be the ideal Jedi Master to enforce it.

Rey’s Jedi Order Will Likely Forbid Attachments

Although Rey will be establishing a brand-new Jedi Order several decades after the prequel trilogy’s Order fell, it’s unlikely that Rey will entirely alter the Jedi way. In fact, Rey actress Daisy Ridley has already made a number of comments implying that Rey’s Jedi Order will very likely ban attachments, just as the prequel trilogy Jedi Order did. In truth, this is a bit disappointing, as Jedi like Kanan Jarrus have more than proven that attachments don’t need to be forbidden outright.

Nevertheless, it makes sense for Rey to uphold this ancient Jedi rule. For one, this rule was clearly integral to the previous Jedi Order, and Luke no doubt communicated that to Rey during their training. Moreover, while there have been plenty of Jedi who have proven that attachment doesn’t need to be such a black-and-white issue, Anakin Skywalker’s downfall was no doubt more than enough proof that attachments are just too risky for a Jedi. Given that, it’s safe to assume this rule will be re-established; however, with Rey in charge, this rule may carry more weight.

Rey’s History Makes Her The Perfect Jedi Master To Tackle This Issue

It remains to be seen how many Jedi will be active during New Jedi Order, as the sequels emphasized that few Jedi remained. However, even in other eras, few Jedi were as well-equipped as Rey to enforce the rule against attachments. Specifically, Rey knows all too well how completely attachments can consume a person, as she spent more than a decade of her life devastated by her parents’ departure and obsessed with them returning. In fact, she hesitated to leave Jakku at all in Star Wars: The Force Awakens because she believed her parents would be back.

While it may have been enough for most Jedi to simply hear that attachments were forbidden, learning from a Jedi Master who directly experienced the dangers of attachments in this way would no doubt be even more effective. In fact, especially if Rey will be following the previous Jedi Order’s recruitment approach of bringing young children to the Jedi Order as Initiates, her experience with familial attachments will be paramount. Truly, of all the Jedi in Star Wars, Rey Skywalker is one of the best-equipped to explain and enforce this Jedi rule that caused so much trouble in the past.
