Why my Meross door sensor doesn’t work with Homey

Sorry for not sharing updates for a while. It turns out people aren’t exaggerating when they tell you having a baby is an incredibly busy and sleep-deprived time.

I really need to buy some new smart home devices and start connecting them to either my Homey hub (preferably), or Alexa. It’s really bothering me to have this beautiful Homey Pro sitting in my living room with next to no smart devices to play with.

All the better if new devices actually add some real value to our lives and aren’t just novel toys that will annoy my wife.

I recently added the Homey skill in Alexa and connected my accounts. I’ve got a Meross door sensor on the front door now and it’s already visible in Alexa, but not in Homey.

I was hoping connecting Homey with Alexa might make that door sensor visible in Homey, but I learned that’s not the way it works. The Alexa skill is for the purpose of allowing you to use Alexa to control the products in the Homey ecosystem using voice commands (which sounds fantastic), but it doesn’t work the other way around.

It won’t allow you to make Homey “see” a device that’s in Alexa.

That’s something I learned today, good to know.

What I bought today

I got stranded in a nearby shopping mall for a while today and ended up buying a couple of Aqara products:

I bought them in a store, but I’m pretty sure they would have been cheaper if I bought them online. But I was just too eager to get some new toys, so I grabbed them anyway.

I also recently installed a Meross door sensor ( affiliate link) and have an Annke Crater Pro camera ( affiliate link) sitting on my desk that says it works with Alexa that I might set up for baby monitoring.

That’s the update for now. I hope to buy a few more toys tomorrow and also need to get these new devices that I just bought today set up and get them connected.

Have a great weekend, talk soon.
